Fenton reaction in the process of “Laser + Fe” mode excited plasma for Rhodamine B degradation

The spectral emission of laser-induced plasma in water has a broadband continuum containing ultraviolet light, which can be used as a novel light source for the degradation of organic compounds. We studied the degradation process of the organic dye Rhodamine B (RhB) using plasma light source excited by the “Laser + Fe” mode. Spectral analysis and reaction kinetics modelling were used to study the degradation mechanism. The degradation process using this light source could be divided into two stages. The initial stage was mainly photocatalytic degradation, where ultraviolet light broke the chemical bond of RhB, and then RhB was degraded by the strong oxidising ability of ·OH. As the iron and hydrogen ion concentrations increased, the synergistic effect of photocatalysis and the Fenton reaction further enhanced the degradation rate in the later stage. The plasma excited by the “Laser + Fe” mode achieved photodegradation by effectively enhancing the ultraviolet wavelength ratio of the emission spectrum and triggered the Fenton reaction to achieve rapid organic matter degradation. Our findings indicate that the participation of the Fenton reaction can increase the degradation rate by approximately 10 times. Besides, the impact of pH on degradation efficiency demonstrates that both acidic and alkaline environments have better degradation effects than neutral conditions; this is because acidic environments can enhance the Fenton reaction, while alkaline environments can provide more ·OH.

The mussel larvae microbiome changes in response to a temperature rise

Ocean warming caused by global climate change influences the function, diversity, and community dynamics of commensal microorganisms, including the hemolymph and the gut microbiota in mussels. However, the microbiota in hard-shelled mussel (Mytilus coruscus) larvae and the effect of temperature on the microbial community structure have yet to be studied. Herein, we investigated the core microbiota of M. coruscus larvae and the impact of acute (4 h) and gradual (4 days) exposure to a rise in seawater temperature from 21 to 25 °C. Eleven core genera were identified in M. coruscus larvae by 16S rDNA gene sequencing: Alteromonas, Brevundimonas, Delftia, Microbacterium, Neptuniibacter, Neptunomonas, Pseudoalteromonas, Rhodococcus, Stenotrophomonas, Tenacibaculum, and Thalassotalea. The microbiota of larvae in the short exposure treatment was similar to the control. However, the abundance of Delftia, Neptunomonas, Pseudoalteromonadaceae, Rhodococcus, and Stenotrophomonas decreased significantly in the long-exposure larvae. In contrast, at the genus level, the abundance of Tenacibaculum increased significantly. Diversity and multivariate analyses confirmed that the microbiota patterns were linked to seawater warming over the long term. Microbiota diversity did not change significantly, regardless of whether the seawater temperature increased quickly or slowly; however, we observed a significant increase in the microbiota species abundance at higher temperatures. Among the altered bacterial genera, Delftia, Neptunomonas, and Rhodococcus function in the degradation of organic compounds; Pseudoalteromonas is closely associated with mussel attachment and metamorphosis, and Tenacibaculum is an opportunistic pathogen that can cause marine mollusk death. The results suggest that marine heat waves caused by climate change may reduce the ability of symbiotic bacteria to degrade environmental toxins, will affect mussel larvae metamorphosis, and increase the abundance of opportunistic pathogens, thereby increasing the risk of disease and death of mussel larvae.

Enhanced visible light photocatalytic degradation of styrene by g-C3N4 quantum dots/P25 nanocomposites

The enhancement of the visible light response of P25 is of significant importance for the photocatalytic degradation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Graphitic carbon nitride quantum dots (CNQD) are nano-sized counterparts of g-C3N4, exhibiting excellent optical properties. Using a simplified hydrothermal one-step approach, CNQD-loaded P25 (CNQD/P25) was obtained in this work. Under visible light, CNQD/P25 achieved styrene degradation rate of 95% within 240minutes, surpassing the 60% degradation rate of pure P25 under identical conditions. This indicates that the presence of CNQDs greatly enhances the photocatalytic performance of P25 in the visible light region. Further investigations revealed that CNQD/P25 exhibited noticeable enhancement in the ultraviolet-visible absorption spectrum, demonstrating increased visible light absorption. CNQD/P25 demonstrated higher photocurrent response, lower photoresistance, and weaker fluorescence response compared to P25 at similar conditions. Therefore, the presence of CNQDs can enhance visible light absorption of P25, increases the number of photo-generated electrons, optimizes charge separation efficiency, and simultaneously reduces the recombination rate of electrons and holes.

Recent advances on the treatment of oilfield-produced water by advanced oxidation processes: A review

Abstract Despite the advancements in alternative fuels and energy sources, there continues to be a significant global dependence on oil production and extraction. A substantial volume of oilfield-produced water (OPW) is generated during the production and extraction processes of oil fields. Recurrent OPW treatments encountered significant challenges in addressing this particular type of wastewater. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are regarded as a promising alternative approach for the degradation of recalcitrant organic compounds in the OPW. This review focuses on the characterization of OPW. The treatment of organic pollutants in wastewater using AOPs, such as ozonation, Fenton oxidation-based processes, heterogeneous photocatalysis, and persulfate oxidation, is comprehensively reviewed in terms of their efficiency for pollutant degradation. The primary challenges in this field and the future directions for development are proposed, with the aim of providing a valuable reference for achieving highly effective treatment of OPW.

Highly Stable Self-Cleaning Paints Based on Waste-Valorized PNC-Doped TiO2 Nanoparticles.

Adding photocatalytically active TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) to polymeric paints is a feasible route toward self-cleaning coatings. While paint modification by TiO2-NPs may improve photoactivity, it may also cause polymer degradation and release of toxic volatile organic compounds. To counterbalance adverse effects, a synthesis method for nonmetal (P, N, and C)-doped TiO2-NPs is introduced, based purely on waste valorization. PNC-doped TiO2-NP characterization by vibrational and photoelectron spectroscopy, electron microscopy, diffraction, and thermal analysis suggests that TiO2-NPs were modified with phosphate (P=O), imine species (R=N-R), and carbon, which also hindered the anatase/rutile phase transformation, even upon 700 °C calcination. When added to water-based paints, PNC-doped TiO2-NPs achieved 96% removal of surface-adsorbed pollutants under natural sunlight or UV, paralleled by stability of the paint formulation, as confirmed by micro-Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) surface analysis. The origin of the photoinduced self-cleaning properties was rationalized by three-dimensional (3D) and synchronous photoluminescence spectroscopy, indicating that the dopants led to 7.3 times stronger inhibition of photoinduced e-/h+ recombination when compared to a benchmark P25 photocatalyst.

Effect of pH on the photo-Fenton degradation of rhodamine B by Prussian blue/g-C<sub>3</sub>N<sub>4</sub>

The pH solution is one of the critical factors affecting the photo-Fenton degradation of dyes in wastewater. The photoactivity of Prussian blue/g-C3N4 was investigated using the photodegradation of RhB acidic, neutral, and essential medium. The results implicated that more than 98.5% removal of RhB was achieved at pH = 3.62 after irradiation for 60 minutes under visible light. The photocatalytic activity of Prussian blue/g-C3N4 showed the best performance in an acidic medium. This is due to the formation of hydroxyl radicals during the photocatalytic degradation of RhB. Thus, this study has shown the role and potential of the application of photocatalysts in the degradation of toxic organic compounds the wastewater.

Hydrothermal Synthesis and Catalytic Activity of a Nanosized Fe2V4O13 Material in Heterogeneous Fenton-like Reaction for Degradation of Organic Compounds

In this research, the nanosized Fe2V4O13 complex oxide material was synthesized by the hydrothermal method. Its structure, morphology characterization, and other properties were determined using X-ray, SEM, EDX, and DTA-TG methods. The catalytic activity of the material was evaluated in terms of the decolorization and the degradation of the Indigo carmine dye. The optimal condition for the degradation and the reusability of the catalyst were determined. The results showed that the heterogeneous Fenton-like catalyst is a promise for wastewater treatment.

DFT evaluation the photo-catalytic performance of g-C3N4 dots/ZnO with O/S doping

To develop the high-performance g-C3N4-based photo-catalysts and understand the mechanism of photo-catalytic degradation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), we evaluated the photo-catalytic performance and corresponding catalytic mechanisms of g-C3N4 dots/ZnO (CNZO) systems using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Our results showed that the combination of g-C3N4 dots and ZnO monolayer has a appropriate band gap and strong visible light absorption, significantly enhancing photoelectron excitation and immigration. We also observed that O/S doping exerted a significant impact on the band structure and interfacial coupling, thereby increasing the number of photoelectrons that move from the valence band (VB) of ZnO monolayer to the conduction band (CB) of g-C3N4 dots, thereby enhancing the separation of photo-generated electron-hole pairs in O/S-CNZO. Furthermore, the suitable CB and VB positions of O/S-CNZO encourage the adsorption of surface H2O and O2 molecules, leading to the generation of ·OH and ·O2− radicals crucial in VOCs degradation. This work introduces new approaches and perspectives for constructing novel photo-catalysts. Additionally, it involves a theoretical evaluation of the photo-catalytic performance of O/S-CNZO.

Effects of Halides on Organic Compound Degradation during Plasma Treatment of Brines.

Plasma has been proposed as an alternative strategy to treat organic contaminants in brines. Chemical degradation in these systems is expected to be partially driven by halogen oxidants, which have been detected in halide-containing solutions exposed to plasma. In this study, we characterized specific mechanisms involving the formation and reactions of halogen oxidants during plasma treatment. We first demonstrated that addition of halides accelerated the degradation of a probe compound known to react quickly with halogen oxidants (i.e., para-hydroxybenzoate) but did not affect the degradation of a less reactive probe compound (i.e., benzoate). This effect was attributed to the degradation of para-hydroxybenzoate by hypohalous acids, which were produced via a mechanism involving halogen radicals as intermediates. We applied this mechanistic insight to investigate the impact of constituents in brines on reactions driven by halogen oxidants during plasma treatment. Bromide, which is expected to occur alongside chloride in brines, was required to enable halogen oxidant formation, consistent with the generation of halogen radicals from the oxidation of halides by hydroxyl radical. Other constituents typically present in brines (i.e., carbonates, organic matter) slowed the degradation of organic compounds, consistent with their ability to scavenge species involved during plasma treatment.

Acidification of La doped C3N4 for photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline

In this study, the photocatalytic performance of g-C3N4 is improved by doping lanthanum and hydrochloric acid acidification. The prepared samples were characterized by XRD, XPS, ICP, SEM, BET and UV vis DRS. From the SEM and BET results, it can be seen that both doping lanthanum and hydrochloric acid acidification can affect the microstructure of the sample to a certain extent, resulting in a larger specific surface area of the sample. According to UV–vis DRS, it can be determined that the doping of lanthanum and hydrochloric acid acidification have to some extent reduces the band gap of the sample, reduces the recombination rate of electron-hole pair in the sample, makes the photocatalytic process more likely to occur, and improves the photocatalytic performance. Compared with g-C3N4, g-C3N4/La samples have stronger photocatalytic performance, with a 2-hour photocatalytic degradation rate of 95.54 % for tetracycline in g-C3N4/La-400. Based on this, acidification of the sample can further improve its performance, and the 2-hour photocatalytic degradation rate of tetracycline in g-C3N4/La-HCl4 can reach 99.40 %. This study indicates that the doping of lanthanum and hydrochloric acid acidification treatment can improve the photocatalytic performance of g-C3N4. g-C3N4/La-HCl4 has certain application prospects in the degradation of tetracycline and other macromolecular organic compounds.

Unveiling the confinement and interface effect on low temperature degradation of toluene over mesoporous zeolite encapsulated Pt-CeO2 catalyst

The efficient degradation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at low temperatures is urgently needed due to the serious environmental and health hazards they pose. While precious metal-based catalysts offer excellent performance, their application is limited by high-temperature sintering and aggregation. Therefore, inhibiting the migration and aggregation of precious metals during the reaction process can effectively improve their utilization and alleviate catalyst deactivation. In this study, a novel encapsulated catalyst (Pt-CeO@meso-S1) containing Pt-CeO2 interfaces was constructed using mesoporous-rich zeolite as a shell layer and applied to the catalytic oxidation of toluene. The introduction of CeO2 constructed a Pt-CeO2 active interface that promoted the low-temperature degradation of toluene, achieving complete oxidation of toluene at 160 ℃. The crystalline phase transition strategy enhanced the specific surface area, improving the dispersion of platinum and facilitating the construction of the Pt-CeO2 interface. The zeolite shell and mesoporous pores effectively confined/stabilized the Pt-CeO2 active components and inhibited platinum sintering, resulting in outstanding water resistance and high-temperature stability. DFT calculations demonstrated that the presence of the Pt-CeO2 active interfaces reduced oxygen vacancy formation energy and facilitated gas-phase oxygen activation. DFT calculations demonstrated that the presence of the Pt-CeO2 active interfaces reduces the oxygen vacancy formation energy and boosts the activation of gas-phase oxygen. The Mars-van-Krevelen (MvK) mechanism governing toluene degradation over Pt-CeO2@meso-S1 was revealed by in situ DRIFTS. This work provides a promising candidate for industrial high-performance catalytic removal of VOCs at low temperatures.

Insight into recycling spent power ternary cathode materials: Towards preparation of Mn-based catalyst for efficient toluene removal

Both the resource utilization of spent power ternary lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and degradation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by thermal catalytic oxidation are environmental concerns. In this study, a novel perspective is presented: the Mn-based composite metal oxide catalysts were synthesized via impregnation of spent ternary cathode materials for the thermocatalytic oxidative degradation of toluene gas. The results demonstrated that the optimal conditions for catalyst synthesis were a 2% Mn loading, a Co/Mn molar ratio of 0.4, and calcination at 500 ℃ for 6 h. The effectiveness of catalysts is determined by two inherent factors: the specific surface area and the presence of active sites on the surface. The degradation of toluene remained stable across various reaction environments, with the predominant degradation mechanism being Marks-Van-Kreven (MVK) model. The toluene undergoes oxygenation on the catalyst in this pathway, resulting in the formation of H2O, CO2, and intermediates containing benzene rings; and simultaneously, the catalyst is regenerated. The present study offers a valuable reference for the resource utilization of spent ternary LIBs and advances the development of catalysts for efficient degradation of VOCs.

Valorization of the treatment of antibiotic and organic contents generated from an in-situ-RAS-like shrimp farming pond by using graphene-quantum-dots deposited graphitic carbon nitride photocatalysts

In this study, we investigated the possibility of a photocatalytic system that uses graphene-quantum-dot (GQD)-deposited graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) to treat tetracycline (TC) and other organic compounds generated from an in-situ-recirculatory-aquaculture-system (RAS)-like shrimp farming pond. GQDs were successfully deposited on the exfoliated g-C3N4 base through a hydrothermal treatment. The results showed that the incorporation of GQDs into the g-C3N4 enhanced its porosity without aggregating its mesoporous structure. The GQDs-deposited g-C3N4 photocatalysts revealed sheet-like structures with nanopores on their surface that facilitate photocatalysis. More than 90% of the TC was removed by the photocatalysts under UV-LED irradiation. Low loadings of GQDs over g-C3N4 resulted in a faster and more effective photocatalysis of TC, mainly driven by.O2- radicals. The photocatalysts were also applicable in the degradation of organic compounds with 27% of the total organic compounds (TOC) being removed from the wastewater of a RAS-like shrimp farming pond.

Catalytic ozonation with carbon-coated copper-based core-shell catalysts (C/Cu-Al2O3) for the treatment of high-salt petrochemical wastewater

High-salt petrochemical wastewater requires advanced treatment for water reuse due to its high salinity and the presence of refractory organic compounds. Heterogeneous catalytic ozonation is an effective advanced treatment method, with the key to its success lying in the preparation of catalysts. A novel carbon-coated copper-based core-shell catalyst (C/Cu-Al2O3) was successfully prepared. In this work, Al2O3 was used as a carrier and copper as an active component to construct a catalyst with levodopa (L-DOPA) shell and embedded copper sites through the self-polymerization of L-DOPA. The active groups in L-DOPA molecules such as amine and carboxyl groups can be introduced into catalyst and L-DOPA also served as carbon source to reduce Cu(II) to more reactive Cu(I) and Cu(0). Under optimal conditions, its chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal rate for high-salt petrochemical wastewater reached 62.5%. After 20 cycles, its COD removal rate was maintained at above 53%. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) investigations, quenching tests, and degradation experiments of oxalic acid revealed that the generation of embedded copper sites (Cu-O, Cu-N) and the construction of the carbon shell provided the catalyst with rich surface hydroxyl groups and Lewis acid sites, which promoted the decomposition of ozone into hydroxyl radicals (•OH), superoxide radicals (•O2-), and singlet oxygen (1O2) and achieved efficient degradation of organic compounds.

Efficient Catalytic Elimination of Chlorobenzene Based on the Water Vapor-Promoting Effect within Mn-Based Catalysts: Activity Enhancement and Polychlorinated Byproduct Inhibition.

Achieving no or low polychlorinated byproduct selectivity is essential for the chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs) degradation, and the positive roles of water vapor may contribute to this goal. Herein, the oxidation behaviors of chlorobenzene over typical Mn-based catalysts (MnO2 and acid-modified MnO2) under dry and humid conditions were fully explored. The results showed that the presence of water vapor significantly facilitates the deep mineralization of chlorobenzene and restrains the formation of Cl2 and dichlorobenzene. This remarkable water vapor-promoting effect was conferred by the MnO2 substrate, which could suitably synergize with the postconstructed acidic sites, leading to good activity, stability, and desirable product distribution of acid-modified MnO2 catalysts under humid conditions. A series of experiments including isotope-traced (D2O and H218O) CB-TPO provided complete insights into the direct involvement of water molecules in chlorobenzene oxidation reaction and attributed the root cause of the water vapor-promoting effect to the proton-rich environment and highly reactive water-source oxygen species rather than to the commonly assumed cleaning effect or hydrogen proton transfer processes (generation of active OOH). This work demonstrates the application potential of Mn-based catalysts in CVOCs elimination under practical application conditions (containing water vapor) and provides the guidance for the development of superior industrial catalysts.

Whole genome sequencing and characterization of Pantoea agglomerans DBM 3797, endophyte, isolated from fresh hop (Humulus lupulus L.).

This paper brings new information about the genome and phenotypic characteristics of Pantoea agglomerans strain DBM 3797, isolated from fresh Czech hop (Humulus lupulus) in the Saaz hop-growing region. Although P. agglomerans strains are frequently isolated from different materials, there are not usually thoroughly characterized even if they have versatile metabolism and those isolated from plants may have a considerable potential for application in agriculture as a support culture for plant growth. P. agglomerans DBM 3797 was cultured under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, its metabolites were analyzed by HPLC and it was tested for plant growth promotion abilities, such as phosphate solubilization, siderophore and indol-3-acetic acid productions. In addition, genomic DNA was extracted, sequenced and de novo assembly was performed. Further, genome annotation, pan-genome analysis and selected genome analyses, such as CRISPR arrays detection, antibiotic resistance and secondary metabolite genes identification were carried out. The typical appearance characteristics of the strain include the formation of symplasmata in submerged liquid culture and the formation of pale yellow colonies on agar. The genetic information of the strain (in total 4.8 Mb) is divided between a chromosome and two plasmids. The strain lacks any CRISPR-Cas system but is equipped with four restriction-modification systems. The phenotypic analysis focused on growth under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions, as well as traits associated with plant growth promotion. At both levels (genomic and phenotypic), the production of siderophores, indoleacetic acid-derived growth promoters, gluconic acid, and enzyme activities related to the degradation of complex organic compounds were found. Extracellular gluconic acid production under aerobic conditions (up to 8 g/l) is probably the result of glucose oxidation by the membrane-bound pyrroloquinoline quinone-dependent enzyme glucose dehydrogenase. The strain has a number of properties potentially beneficial to the hop plant and its closest relatives include the strains also isolated from the aerial parts of plants, yet its safety profile needs to be addressed in follow-up research.

A radical polymer membrane for simultaneous degradation of organic pollutants and water filtration

Integrating reactive radicals into membranes that resemble biological membranes has always been a pursuit for simultaneous organics degradation and water filtration. In this research, we discovered that a radical polymer (RP) that can directly trigger the oxidative degradation of sulfamethozaxole (SMX). Mechanistic studies by experiment and density functional theory simulations revealed that peroxyl radicals are the reactive species, and the radicals could be regenerated in the presence of O2. Furthermore, an interpenetrating RP network membrane consisting of polyvinyl alcohol and the RP was fabricated to demonstrate the simultaneous filtration of large molecules in the model wastewater stream and the degradation of ~ 85% of SMX with a steady permeation flux. This study offers valuable insights into the mechanism of RP-triggered advanced oxidation processes and provides an energy-efficient solution for the degradation of organic compounds and water filtration in wastewater treatment.

Pretreatment by a novel photo-electro reactor to control organic and biofouling during reverse osmosis filtration of reclaimed water

This study reports the performance of a novel photo-electro filtration (PEF) reactor consisting of an IrO2/RuO2 coated anodic filter and UV lamp to pretreat biologically treated wastewater effluent prior to reverse osmosis (RO) filtration. Synthetic model solutions and biologically treated wastewater effluent were used for systematic evaluation of the PEF reactor performance in terms of organic degradation, bacterial inactivation, biofilm formation reduction, and ultimately RO fouling mitigation. Experiments with model solutions containing proteins (Bovine Serum Albumin) and bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa) show that UV irradiation and electrochemical treatment with increasing voltage input resulted in superior bacterial inactivation, biofilm formation reduction, and effective organic degradation. When the PEF reactor was used to pretreat biologically treated wastewater effluent, electrochemical treatment at 3 V alone and the combination of electrochemical treatment at 3 V and UV could achieve near complete bacterial inactivation and good fouling reduction during subsequent RO operation. However, the combination of electrochemical treatment at 3 V and UV was superior over electrochemical treatment at 3 V alone in several aspects including fouling reduction and reduced risk of membrane degradation due to chlorine residue. The underlying mechanisms responsible for effective PEF pretreatment performance were elucidated by monitoring the fate of free chlorine, hydroxyl radicals (indirectly monitored by measuring concentration of the quenching chemical N-n-dimethyl-p-nitrosoaniline), H2O2, quorum sensing signal molecules, and organic fractions during UV irradiation and electrochemical treatment. Effective bio and organic fouling mitigation by PEF pretreatment was attributed to the enhanced bacterial inactivation and degradation of organic compounds (primarily protein-like and humic-like substances) by hydroxyl radicals (∙OH) produced from photo-electrochemical treatment.

Enhancing air treatment through controlled fabrication of transition metal-doped titanium dioxide nanocomposites for photocatalytic toluene degradation

Rapid industrial growth and urbanization have resulted in a significant rise in environmental pollution issues, particularly indoor air pollutants. As a result, it is crucial to design and develop technologies and/or catalysts that are not only cost-effective but also promising high performance and practical applicability. However, achieving this goal has been so far remained a challenging task. Herein, a series of transition metal M − TiO2 (M = W, Fe, Mn) nanocrystals was prepared for photocatalytic degradation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), i.e., toluene. Of the nanocomposites tested, W–TiO2 showed significantly improved photocatalytic activity for VOC degradation under UV irradiation compared to the others. In particular, the optimized W dopant amount of 0.5 wt% resulted in the outstanding degradation performance of toluene (96%) for the obtained W–TiO2(0.5%) nanocomposite. Moreover, W–TiO2(0.5%) nanocomposite exhibited good stability for 32 h working under high toluene concentration (10 ppm) compared to the pristine TiO2. The current work demonstrates the potential usage of M − TiO2 nanocrystals, particularly W–TiO2(0.5%), as a promising photocatalyst for efficient VOCs degradation.

Heterogeneous nanostructure anatase/rutile titania supported platinum nanoparticles for efficient photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue dyes

Efficient degradation of organic compounds in water is also challenge for wastewater treatment. Photocatalytic degradation based on multifunctional semiconductor materials has attracted great attention as a prospective method and is highly desirable. Here, we investigated the photocatalytic performance of Pt-supported TiO2 photocatalyst in different crystal structures (rutile, rutile/anatase, anatase) for degradation of methylene blue dye. The morphology and structural properties of TiO2 nanoparticles were tested using field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) techniques. Moreover, the photocatalytic activities over noble metal supported anatase/rutile titania catalysts (Pd/TiO2, Pt/TiO2, and Ru/TiO2) were evaluated by degrading the methylene blue dye under solar light irradiation, and Pt/TiO2 contributed the highest decomposition efficiency within 20 min irradiation. A possible reaction mechanism for the catalytic oxidation of methylene blue was proposed.
